The PT colour penetration test (the so-called penetrant testing) is used for the detection of fine surface defects which are not visible to the human eye and works through the capillary effect.
It is preferably used in the case of non-magnetizable raw materials, but can also be used in the case of magnetizable raw materials.
The necessary prerequisite for a successful application of the PT colour penetration test is that the flaws are open toward the surface of the raw material. The evaluation of the indicators is carried out under daylight and/or artificial light with more than 500 lx on the workpiece.
The PT colour penetration testing is mainly used in the industrial field, for example in installation construction, apparatus and container construction, shipbuilding, automotive, railway construction, pipeline construction, in foundries, power plants and chemical installations.

Fluorescent PT Penetration Test – PT Flour Fields of application
The flourescent PT colour penetration test (the so-called penetrant testing) is applied for the detection of fine surface defects which are not visible to the human eye and works through the capillary effect.
It is preferably used in the case of non-magnetizable raw materials, but can also be applied in the case of magnetizable raw materials.
The necessary prerequisite for a successful application of the fluorescent PT colour penetration test is that the flaws are open toward the surface of the piece. The evaluation of the test surface is carried out under UV radiation with > 10 W/m² on the workpiece. Due to the fluorescent colour pigments of the test agent, for the eye this results in an improved contrast optimising the defect detection ability.
This method is mainly used in the industrial field, for example in installation, apparatus and container construction, shipbuilding, automotive, railway construction, pipeline construction, in foundries, power plants and chemical installations.
